How to use

  1. Say the sound, not the letter name

Say /b/ as in bump, not “bee.” Vowels are short: /a/ as in apple, not “ay.”

  2. Keep quick sounds quick

b, c, d, g, j, k, p and t are one short pop with no “uh” on the end. Stretch the others: mmm, sss, fff.

  3. Copy Frida like a mirror

Sit beside your child, face the screen, and copy her together while you say the sound. The three pictures show the same motion one step at a time.

  4. The motion is a helper

Use it when a sound is tricky. Show the motion, wait a moment, then say the sound together. No quizzes, scores or timers. A few minutes is plenty.

  5. Watch Miss Maria

Each letter has a short clip of Miss Maria from the classroom. It only loads when you tap See Miss Maria do it.

  6. Match your classroom

Use Letter style to pick print or cursive and lowercase or capitals. Lowercase comes first. Vowels are blue and consonants are rose, like the classroom letters.

  7. Letters with more than one sound

Each page shows the first sound a child learns: c as /k/ in cup, g as /g/ in gorilla, q with u as /kw/ in queen, and x as /ks/ at the end of box.
